Obituary of Randall Scott Grimes

Randall "Randy" Scott Grimes of Jackson, a beloved father, papa, spouse, and friend passed away on Sept 1, 2023, at the age of 70, after suffering complications from pneumonia.

Randy was born to Bill and Jewell Grimes on May 4, 1953, in Ceres, CA. He graduated Turlock High School in 1971, and in 1972 married his high school sweetheart, Janice Tobler of Westport. They had 3 children together, 2 girls and 1 boy. To support his young family Randy took various jobs including gas station attendant, security guard, carpenter, city works employee, player-piano restoration and even worked as a grave digger at a local cemetery for a time before settling into a life-long career in truck and trailer sales. Randy and Janice divorced in 1979 but found their way back to each other until ultimately parting ways in 1984. Though divorced, they continued to raise their children together in love and unity. Randy’s unfeigned love and acceptance of all caused many of his children’s friends to affectionately call him Dad/Pops and has maintained that title with them still today. He was a loyal man who kept relationships with his childhood friends throughout his life.

In 2007, Randy met the love of his life, Cathy Cooper of Sutter Creek. They, along with Cathy’s son Scott, made a home together in Jackson where Randy lived the remainder of his life. Cathy and Randy committed to love, honor, and cherish each other for the rest of their lives.

Randy left behind a legacy of love and compassion, (dipped in whiskey and sprinkled with humor) that will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him. He loved God, family, friends, music, food, and communing with nature.

Randy was predeceased by his parents Bill and Jewell Grimes and brother Carl Linam. He is survived by his hunny, Cathy and her son Scott Cooper; daughters Amy Holley and Sarah Bascom (Robert); son Ben Grimes (Renee); grandbuddys, Trevor, Branden, Robbie, Ayla, Darren, Wyatt, Sammy, and Chase; god-son Andrew Bringazi; and a host of lifelong friends.
